The fourth and newest district in Freiburg – centrally located and covering an area of 8 hectares – is meant to be a blueprint for affordable housing in Freiburg, where property prices and rents are skyrocketing. Just over 500 flats are to be built there, exclusively by investors focused on the common good. As part of an urban development measure, the city has adopted strict rules regarding the use of this living space: rent increases are only possible in consultation with the city, conversion of flats into owner-occupied property is prohibited, as are luxury renovations. With only 0.3 parking spaces (in a collective garage) per residential unit and one bicycle parking space per 30 m2, the transport concept is also environmentally friendly.
