A fifth eco-district is in planning in Freiburg at the moment: Dietenbach. It will be a zero emission district without the use of any fossile fuels. The project profits from the experiences made in the already existing eco-districts Vauban, Rieselfeld and Gutleutmatten, which offer a high life quality to their 19,000 residents – and very low energy costs. Building design and transport policies (public transportation, tram) reduce CO2-emissions. Civic participation made the three districts vibrant and functional. They provide experiments both in architecture and in urban planning aspects. We offer tours with diverse special focuses, depending on your interests. At the moment, the plots for the construction of the fourth eco-district, Kleinescholz (500 appartments), are being marketed by the city of Freiburg.
